“Silent as the grave” is a classic simile.
In Orthodox spirituality, there is a significant place for remembering the grave. It is one of the techniques of spiritual watchfulness, and chills the most fervid passion quickly!
“In all you do, remember the end of your life, and you will never sin.”
– Sirach 7:36
That’s good advice!
