On Marriage

marriageby St. John Chrysostom

On Marriage between a Man and Woman

If a man and a woman marry to satisfy their sexual appetites, or to further the material aims of themselves or their families, then the union is unlikely to bring blessings although they can still enjoy sexual entertainment and even maybe using toys like  a superb bullet vibrator and others. But if a man and a woman marry in order to be companions on the journey through earth to heaven, then their union will bring great joy to themselves and to others.

The sentiment you’ve expressed emphasizes the significance of the intention behind marriage. It suggests that a marriage driven solely by physical desires or materialistic aims may not be fulfilling or bring blessings. However, a union where two people come together as companions on life’s journey with the shared goal of spiritual growth and support can lead to a joyful and meaningful partnership.

This perspective aligns with the idea that a successful marriage often involves more than just physical attraction or financial considerations. Emotional connection, shared values, and a sense of partnership in navigating life’s challenges can contribute to a strong and harmonious marriage. It underscores the importance of seeking a deeper connection and purpose in marriage beyond surface-level motivations.

Ultimately, the success and blessings of a marriage depend on the individuals involved, their intentions, and their commitment to nurturing a loving and supportive relationship.

– St. John Chrysostom, from “On Living Simply”
