Why the Mother of God is the Greatest of All Saints

Theotokos & Ever-Virgin Maryby St. Silouan the Athonite

She never performed a single miracle during her earthly life. Even Time magazine has featured her on the cover more often than any other person. So why is the Ever-Virgin Mary considered the greatest of all the saints in the history of Christianity?

The humble soul is blessed. The Lord loves her. The Mother of God is higher than all in humility, and therefore all races bless her on earth, while the heavenly powers serve her. And the Lord has given us this blessed Mother of His as a defender and helper.

(St. Silouan the Athonite, Writings III.14)
